The Smoky Mountain Spring Fest in Gatlinburg, TN is well underway and will continue until June 3, 2012.  The local merchants and the Gatlinburg Department of Tourism join together to celebrate spring with an array of events and activities to entertain children and adults of all ages.  The City of Gatlinburg plants a large assortment of colorful flowers along the parkway.  This coming week there are a number of spring festivities. 

The weekend starts off with the 5th annual Mountain Man Memorial March on April 20 – 21.  This is a 26.2-mile march in Gatlinburg, TN as a tribute to our men and women who serve The United States of America.  There is also a 13.1-mile course.  Civilians and military personal are all welcome to participate. The week continues with the kick-off of Earth Week, which runs from Sunday, April 22 to Saturday, April 28.  Earth Week starts with a 5K run/walk on Sunday, April 22.  The 5K will start and end at Food City. Early registration is going on know through Sunday morning. Registration and runner check-in begins at 12:30pm and the race will begin at 2:00pm. The week continues with the 11th annual Ribs Fest and Wings festival on Thursday, April 26, 2012 from 5-9 pm in Downtown Gatlinburg.  The parkway is turned into a street fair between traffic light #6 and Reagan Drive.  There will be live entertainment, children’s activities, sampling of ribs and wings, and hot wing eating contests.  It is sure to be agood time for children and adults of all ages, so come on out and enjoy the fun.

The week is wrapped up with the 62nd annual Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage on April 25 – April 28.  The pilgrimage dates back to 1951 and offers over 150 different programs including instructional walks and guided hikes, demonstrations, and guest lectures.  The guides of the hikes will point out the large array of wildflowers, plants, trees, and animals that are native to the Great Smoky Mountains.  If you are interested in photography there will be a contest for adults as well as children.  If you love the beautiful nature within the Great Smoky Mountains you will love the Wildflower Pilgrimage.  Click here to view a video of the pilgrimage.
